A couple of free hours on the allotment

It makes a change that I have any free time and it certainly doesn't happen very often so after I dropped my little boy of to school and my little girl off to preschool, I managed to disappear to the allotment for 2 hours. It really is amazing what you can achieve in a short space of time. This morning I managed to plant out all of the (long overdue) brassicas - cauliflowers, cabbages, 2 rows of brussel sprouts and two rows of purple sprouting broccoli. I am beginning to think maybe I've overdone the brussels and broccoli but we shall see!
I also got a chance to plant out the carrots that I had sown in old toilet rolls back in April. These looked really promising with quite a few baby carrots although I 'm not sure if it really is worth all the effort, I think I may just stick to normal planting next year.
The final job was weeding the roots bed, it looks so much better now and allowed me to spot a few parsnips coming up (although not as many as I had hoped - I think that the radishes planted with the parsnip seed may have hindered the parsnip seeds growing as I couldn't pick the radishes quick enough, another lessons learnt for next year!).
I managed to be quite productive in the garden as well this afternoon. I planted out my blueberry bush, 3 courgette plants and as I am overrun with tomato plants, I have also started planting these out in the borders.
On the house/domestic goddess front I have failed miserably! The house is a tip lol. So that's the next job (especially as we have friends coming for a BBQ tomorrow) as well as trying to prepare the food for tomorrow and think of a dessert - oh why oh why do I always leave everything to the last minute.....
